Finland 2018

In October 2018 a group of 18 teachers visited Helsinki and a Tampere Finland to visit a range of schools and to talk to educators about what makes the Finnish education system so successful.

We visited 5 schools and had learning sessions with educators on:
* an overview of the Finnish education system
* curriculum and assessment
* inclusive education
* team work and vocational schools
* school leadership

What did delegates say?

"I strongly recommend this informative, well organised and stimulating tour that catered for a wide range of interests. Everything ran like clockwork. The coordinators could not have been more helpful or accommodating. The tour was thought provoking and certainly provided me with some key (and potentially transferable) ideas notably ways to increase students' responsibility for their own learning."

"The opportunity to be immersed into the Finnish education system; to hear from teachers; to visit classrooms; and to speak with students is the most valuable way to learn. This study tour incorporated all of these aspects, as well as high quality lectures from experienced educators and leaders. Being able to do this whilst networking with educators from other systems and countries provided great scope for thinking and learning. To understand the success of Finland's education system, you need to understand that it is "the sum of all the parts". It isn't one thing that I take away, but how all things work together to empower students to want to learn and achieve. The " no dead ends" for any child inspires me to work within my own system, to make this a reality at our school. What an amazing experience."
